1. PM TO INITIATE WORK ON INDIA’S LONGEST BRIDGE ON FEB 18 LONGEST BRIDGE UNTIL NOW: 




"At present the longest bridge in India is the 9.15 km long Dhola sadiya bridge which became functional in 2017. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday digitally lay the foundation stone of the fifth Bridge across the Brahmaputra that would be India’s longest river. 

«The 19.282 km four-lane bridge, expected to be completed by 2026-27, will connect phulbari in Meghalaya and Dhubri in Poll-bound Assam. 

NSDhubri-phulbari Bridge is a proposed Bridge over the Brahmaputra river between Assam and Meghalaya in north-east India. 

This Bridge, as per the original plan, would be completed by 2027-28. It would be India’s longest bridge over Water and would span more than 19 km. 

The bridge Would reduce the distance between Phulbari in west Meghalaya and Dhubri west Assam From 200 kilometres to almost 19 kilometres. 

it would be built at an estimated cost of INR 5000 crore. 

The cities that would be connected would be Dhubri, Phulbari, Tura, Rongram and Rongjeng. 

JICA is a governmental agency that delivers the bulk of official development assistant (ODA) for the Government of Japan. This 

company would be helping India build the bridge. 


SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BRIDGE: 

The need for this Bridge was held in April 2012, when a boat carrying 305 passengers had capsized 

on the Brahmaputra. The disaster killed almost 103 people. 

Gadkari informed that Assam and Meghalaya would have a direct connection with West Bengal due to this Bridge. 

It will save the distance and time needed to travel to Bhutan and Bangladesh.  

The world’s longest bridge is the Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge in China, part of the Beijing Shanghai high speed railway. The bridge, which opened in June 2011, spans 102.4miles (165 km) . Another part of the train line, the 70.8 mile (114km) long LangfangQingxian viaduct, is the second longest bridge in the world. 

«China constructed the Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge in just 4 years, employing 10,000 workers, 

at a cost of about $8.5 million. 


2. CRIMES REDUCED BY 16% FROM 2019: 




«Crime in the Capital reduced by nearly 16% in 2020 as compared to 2019, showed data released by Delhi Police on Friday. However, cases of snatching and robbery witnessed an increase. 

«According to the data, 2,66,070 Indian Penal code cases were registered in 2020 as against 3,16,261 in 2019, showing a decline of 15.8 7°o. Police control room calls in 2020 were 18,08,384 calls as compared to 29,25,531 in 2019, showing a decline of 38.19%, the data stated. 


3.T00 MANY IIT’S UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS 




«However, for the past decade or so, and according to the current plans, the IIT “system” has expanded beyond its capacity to maintaining it's high standards as in danger of sinkininto mediocrity

WHAT THE IITS ARE ARE NOT: 

*The original 5 IITs were established in the 1950s and early 1960s. 

«Four had a Foreign collaborator: IIT BOMBAY (the Soviet union), IIT MADRAS (Germany), IIT KANPUR (The United States), and IIT DELHI (The Kingdom). Currently, there are 23 IITs.

 

4.PM NARENDRA MODI ADDRESSES ‘COVID-19 MANAGEMENT’ WORKSHOP




The Prime Minister address a workshop on “COVID-19 Management”: Experience, Good practices and way forward” with health leaders, experts card officials of 10 neighbouring countries viz Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan, Seychelles, Srilanka along with Indian officials and experts, today. 

«The Prime Minister lauded the way the health system of the countries cooperative during the pandemic and for meeting the challenge in the most densely populated region with coordinated response. 

Asking the countries to raise the ambition further, the Prime Minister suggested creating a special visa scheme for our doctors and nurses, so that they can travel quickly within our region during health emergencies, on the request of the receiving country. He also asked whether our Civil aviation ministers can co-ordinate I regional air ambulance agreement tor medical contingencies? He also suggested that we can create a regional platform for collating,compiling and study data about the effectiveness of covid-19 vaccines among our populations.Furthermore, he asked, can we similarly create a regional network For promoting Technology-assisted epidemiology, for preventing future pandemics? 

«Beyond COVID-19, the Prime Minister suggested sharing of successful public health policies and schemes. He suggested, from India, Ayushman Bharat and Jan arogya schemes may be useful case studies for the region. “If the 215 century is to be the Asian century, it cannot be without greater integration among the Countries Of South Asia and the Indian Ocean island countries. The spirit of regional solidarity that you have shown during the pandemic has proven that such integration is possible” concluded the Prime Minister. ad 


5. INDIA’S COVIP VACCINATION COVERAGE CROSSES 94 LAKHS, THIRD TOP MOST GLOBALLY 




India is the third top most country globally with the highest cumulative vaccination numbers, aft-r USA ane the UK. 

As on 18 February, 2021, till 8:00 AM, the cumulative vaccination coverage to healthcare workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (Flaws) against covid-19 in the country has crossed 94 lakhs.
