 1.THE "VACCINE PASSPORT’ THAT DENMARK IS GOING TO LAUNCH 



«In an effort to reduce curbs on travel and public life, Denmark Wednesday said it is in the process of rolling out a digital passport that would show if holders have been vaccinated against the coronavirus. 

«Morten Boedskov, Denmark’s Finance Minister, said in a news conference,‘‘This is aboutus, asa country, exploiting the technical advantages we have. We can be amongst the first in the world to have this and showit to the rest of the world”. b 

«The first step will be completed by the end of February, when Danish citizens who have been 

vaccinated will be able to see a record Ona government health website. After another three or four months, the digital passport and an app will be launched. Boedskov said it will function as an “extra passport” that people can carry on their mobile devices. 

Currently, Denmark is under a lockdown. Nonessential retail is closed, and bars and restaurants are only permitted takeaway orders. 

The Danish government Presented the plan along with representatives of major industry groups and trade associations, who have clamoured for the adoption of easily accessible vaccination proofs. Boedskov said, “it is absolutely crucial for us to be able to restart Danish society so that companies can get back on track. Many Danish companies are global companies with the whole world as a market”. 

2. SIX ELEPHANTS DIE IN 14 DAYS IN ODISHA SANCTUARY; CM _ASKS AUTHORITIES TO TAKE STEPS 



*Recently, six elephants died of Haemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) in Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary located in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. 

*Haemorrha: ic Se:ticemia HS: 

*It is a disease which infects animals that come in contact with contaminated water or soil by a contagious bacteria (Pasteurella multocida). 

In this disease the respiratory tract and lungs of the animals are affected, leading to severe » pneumonia. 

*It mainly affects water buffalo, cattle and bison with a high mortality rate in infected animals. 

*Recently, around 40 buffaloes had succumbed to the infection in Odisha’s kendrapara. "The disease generally spreads in the period b right before and after the monsoons


KARLAPAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY: 

Location : It is spread over 175 square kilometre area in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. Vegetation: Dry Deciduous Forest. 

Fauna: «Mammals: Elephant, Leopard, Gaur, Sambar, Barking deer, Indian Wolf, Malbar giant squirrel, Pangolin, ete. 

Birds: Peacock, Hornbill, Red jungle fowl, etc. b» *Reptilians: Mugger, crocodile, monitor lizagd etc.

 KARLAPAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY: 

Flora: Sal, Bija, Bamboo, medicinal plants, etc. "Water Body: Phurlijharan water falls is located within the sanctuary. 

3. GOOGLE’S PAYMENT DEAL WITH AUSTRALIAN MEDIA FIRM: BACKGROUND, LIKELY IMPACT

4. THIRD SCORPENE CLASS SUBMARINE DELIVERED TO INDIAN NAVY 



It is a programme by the Indian Navy that entails building six Scorpene Class attack submarines. 

The programme has been undertaken with transfer of technology from French company Naval group (formerly known as DCNS) at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL). 

The first scorpene submarine, Kalvari, was commissioned in 2017 and it would go for a normal refit after six years in 2023, during which time the AirIndependent Propulsion (API) would be installed > pa Second Scorpene Khanderi was inducted in September 2019. 

The remaining submarines (Vela, Vague and Vagsheer) in the series are in advanced stages of manufacturing and trials. 


5. WHO IS NGOZI OKON O-IWEALA FIRST FEMALE AND AFRICAN TO HEAD WTO? 



The newly-appointed head of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala became the first female and first African to hold the role in its history. Her dual citizenship with the United States also makes her the first American to hold this position. 


"The WTO’s 164 members on Monday unanimously selected the 66-year-old Nigerian economist to serve . a four-year term as the director general of the organisation. Her tenure is set to begin on March "hs 2021. < 


 WHO IS NGOZI OKON 0-IWEALA? 

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a Nigerian economist whose career in development and Finance spans over four decades. Iweala served as the finance minister of Nigeria,holding the position for two consecutive terms, first from 2003 to 2006 and then from 2011 to 2015.She I was also the first woman to hold this position in her country and the first female to hold it twice.  

Iweala was the minister of foreign Affairs of Nigeria after her first tenure as the Finance Minister, again becoming the first female to be in this role.She held this position for 2 months. 

Iweala has also spent over 20 years working with the World Bank where she Rose to become the managing director of the organisation and oversaw 181 billion dollars worth of operations. 

6. SHABNAMFIRST WOMAN TO BE HANGED IN INDEPENDENT INDIA. 



For the first time in the history of India’s Independence, a woman on death row will be executed at the country’s lone female execution room in Mathura. According to multiple media reports, Shabnam, one of the two convicts in the sensational Amroha murder case, will be executed here.She is the first woman in the country who is set for gallows after in independent India. But the execution date is not finalized yet. 

Saleem and Shabnam were having an affair and wanted to get married but their relationship met with stiff opposition from the woman’s family. On April 15, 2008, Shabnam’s entire family was wiped out and the woman initially pretended that her house in Amroha district of UP was attacked by unidentified assailants. 

It came to light during the investigation that she had betted Saleem in the crime as she made her family members drink milk laced with sedatives before hacking them to death. She didn’t even spare her little nephew killed who was strangulated to death. 

7. SOUTH AFRICA DENIES ASKING SERUM TO TAKE BACK 1 MILLION VACCINE DOSES



 The South African government has denied that it has asked Serum Institute of India (SII) to take back the 1 million doses of covid-19 vaccines that the company had sent in early February. The government said that it plans to share the vaccines with other African countries. This statement came after ET’s report that the country was negotiating with SII and AstraZeneca fora possible return/refund of the vaccines after it decided to halt the use of the AstraZenecaOxford vaccine. 

8.THE REAL IMPACT OF FACEBOOK SWITCHING OF NEWS IN AUSTRALIA 



In a strong pushback to Australia’s as new media bargaining laws, Facebook has decided to black out news content from its social networking platform down under. Calling it their “last choice”, Facebook said it will ‘stop allowing publishers and people in Australia from sharing local and international news on Facebook and Instagram”. 

Arguing how the new laws will work against the publishers, William Easton, managing director, Facebook Australia and New Zealand, claimed in a blog post: “Last year Facebook generated approximately 5.1 billion free referrals to Australian publishers worth an estimated AU$407 million”.
